DIY/OOTD: My Mixed Ankara Prom Dress

Hi Lovelies, Hope you had a good day? I've been down with cold and cough but I believe I will be up and about soonest.

Today I wore this Mixed Ankara prom dress which I’d made over the weekend. I am happy writing this post because I never knew the fabrics will come out this lovely because I bought them as last options.

If you ever go to Lagos Island to buy fabrics, you could bear me witness that the regular Hi-target ankara and the likes which sold for as low as N2,800 and N3,000 some months ago are now as expensive as N4,500 and for highly demanded ones, N6,000 or more. I didn’t have good money on my last trip to Lagos Island market so I decided to try out ankara’s that are not in the range of Hi target. I went for these fabrics which were pretty cheaper than the highly demanded ankara fabrics and this is what I made out of it. I've also cut out and washed a piece of this fabric and it is quality guaranteed.Trying out new things isn’t bad after-all. So sometimes it doesn’t make sense to just stick to a particular thing simply because you are familiar with it.

In making this prom dress, I’d combined two different Ankara fabrics. It may not be very obvious because the two fabrics somehow complement each other but then the sleeves and hem area were made using Ankara which is totally different from the bodice and skirt area. I am loving this fashion experiment called “Mixed Print” and I will be creating more pieces in this form if time permits me.

Styling my prom dress, I’d kept it very simple by going for a black pump shoe and a black clutch bag......I like simple things you know.......Lol.

Here are more pictures after the cut......................
