Reviews: Heineken LFDW 2017

I am already looking forward to HLFDW 2018 as this year’s was very exciting, fun filled and engaging. Kudos to the team that put together this year’s event. I personally think this platform is very useful to any fashion savvy individuals as well as any individual who is looking forward to starting up a business of any sort. So if you missed this year's, ensure you attend 2018.

Fun, fun fun all the way, needless to talk about the day's activities and classes which held during the fashion week; I found them very educative and eye opening. Then again, designers who showcased their pieces on the runway brought on their A-game. One remarkable observation I made is that there were barely Ankara numbers on the runway which got me thinking about what and where Nigerian fashion is tilting towards. Interesting though as this has also redirected my thoughts and fashion forecast for the next one year.
Again,I love techniques applied by a whole lot of designers this year. Again, I’d noticed most designers worked with soft fabrics like silks, chiffons, organza, satins and cottons and there weren’t so much print fabrics as well. There were also a good number of sheers and see through fabrics. Then ,talking about techniques applied, there were fringes, slits and whole lot of deconstructed pieces and yes some mixed print as seen in Lisa Folawiyo’s, Tiffany Amber and a few more. Enough said, here are some lovely numbers I spotted on the run way and my take on them.

Tsemaye Binitie
I love Tsemaye’s choice of colors as he seems to have put together a collection that will appeal to a wide range of ladies. Yes I spotted my favorite colors (white & black) in his works. He’d also applied fringes, slits and had used more of round neck on over 80% of his work. I love the simplicity of his pieces and you know they say simple things are expensive; not sure how much his pieces are sold for but they are sure beautiful and I love every number from his collection, they are very wearable.

Lulu Mutuli & AzraWalji
Oh, I fancied Lulu & Azra’s collection, it very colorful and vibrant and their silhouettes are figure accentuating. Green and orange sits together any day, anytime and they had just used both color to create an amazing collection. I can also see a little bit of mixed prints in their work.

Tiffany Amber
Very colourful and vibrant, I am so loving her collection. Her iro and buba styled with those mama kinda head rap is out of the world. I love the way she accessorized her pieces; the hand bags and then the sash/belts are worth having. I could draw lots of inspiration from her collection.

Clan
Very chic and elegant, I urge the work ladies to fall in here. I love her silhouette; again her pieces were neatly put together. She worked with soft as well as solid colours which a wide range of ladies can connect with. Amazing!!!

Lisa Folawiyo
I call her the boss lady and she sure had a boss collection on the run way. Oh I could very well relate with her print, yes very well because of my Igbo origin. I am not sure what name she had given this collection but I could very well spot “the isi agu” print which Lisa used in creating her pieces. I also love the bling and sparkle embellishments she added to the pieces.Pictures didn't do right to Lisa's embellishments.  They looked royal and edifying on the runway. I love the manner in which she mixed the different print she used in creating her collection.

Grey
Grey as always had very unique and wearable pieces. I love her choice of colours ranging from yellow to orange, then blue, touch of black and few more. She seems to have put together numbers that will see a lady or a guy from the day through to night very elegantly

Onolaja
I spend a lot of time each time I find myself on Onolaja’s Instagram page, reason being because I marvel at her creativity. In all, I spot this uniqueness in her creations so she happens to be one of my sources of inspiration. I wasn’t expecting less from her on HLFDW 2017 run way. I love her range of colors – grey, white, black with touches of burnt orange in some of her numbers. She had also features some sheers and see through which I believe can be styled and rocked differently off the runway.

Here are at few of so many awesome designs that heralded HLFDW2017 runway. You could catch a full dose of all the designers and pieces that walked the runway here
